Port Ellen – 40 Year Old Untold Stories: 9 Rogue Casks (70cl, 50.9%)

This is a 40 year old Islay single malt from Port Ellen, bottled at 50.9% in a 70cl bottle. It is part of the Untold Stories series and is limited to 1380 bottles. It was made from nine casks from 1979 that the master distiller found and considered out of the ordinary, the 'rogue' casks of the title. The nose is delicate, grassy and herbal, with burnt tangerine skin, crème caramel, roasted coffee, red fruit compote and ripe peach skin. The palate brings bonfire smoke, pipe tobacco, leather and wood spice, followed by a long, wispy smoky finish.
