Asava is an Indian single malt from Rampur Distillery in Uttar Pradesh, bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is distilled from 100% Indian barley in copper pot stills.
The whisky was first aged in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in casks that held Indian Cabernet Sauvignon, a step the distillery claims as a world first. It is non-chill filtered.
The nose is warm and porridge-like, with cardamom, crushed nuts, baklava-like sweetness, rosehip tea and orange peel. The palate brings manuka honey, spicy oak and vanilla, then apricot, blackberry, plum and tobacco. The finish is long and gently drying, with dark fruit and spiced oak.
