Rare Character Fortuna Sour Mash Kentucky Straight Bourbon 6 Year Old (75cl, 51%)

Fortuna Sour Mash is a Kentucky straight bourbon aged for a minimum of six years and bottled at 51% ABV. It is a blend of six barrels, hand-selected by the people behind Rare Character Whiskey, and the mash bill is a traditional rye bourbon. Fortuna was a brand created by Phil Hollenbach, a German immigrant who found success in Louisville, Kentucky in the late nineteenth century. The distillery closed in the 1960s, and the name has now been revived by Andy Shapira, Pablo Moix and Peter Nevenglosky of Rare Character. The nose is orange blossom honey and plums, with cherry blossom and citrus oil. The palate is viscous, with caramel, cherry and baking spice. The finish is long, with plums, toasted sugar and tobacco.
