This is a nine-year-old single barrel bourbon, bottled at barrel strength in a 75cl bottle, without chill filtration or added water. It comes from Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
The barrel was chosen by Master Distiller Ian Stirsman from his private reserve for the Distillers Vault programme. The mashbill is high in rye, at 49%, with corn and malted barley making up the rest, and the whiskey was aged in charred new American oak.
The nose has cinnamon, clove and black pepper over caramel and toasted oak, with dried fruit and leather behind. The palate is rich, with rye spice, toffee, brown sugar and dark fruit. The finish is long and warming, with black pepper, toasted oak and a molasses-like sweetness.
