Righ Seumas II Batch 4 is a 12 year old crafted blend from Murray McDavid, made from 70 per cent malt and 30 per cent grain whisky from the 2008 vintage. It was bottled in 2021 from three casks, giving 964 bottles at 46%, without chill-filtering or added colour.
The malts come from Bruichladdich, Auchentoshan, Tobermory, Arran and Old Rhosdhu, in a composition inspired by Jim McEwan. They matured in Bordeaux red wine barriques, were married with grain whisky and then rested in sherry hogsheads.
The nose combines herbs and grass with smoke and smoked plums, then leather and vanilla. The palate brings raisins, figs, dates, dried apricots and nuts, with a buttery toffee cake character and oak spice. Sooty notes, tobacco, plums and apricots linger in a creamy finish.
