This is an 18-year-old Highland single malt Scotch whisky from Royal Brackla, near Nairn. It is made from malted Scottish barley, matured in American oak and then finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% in a 75cl bottle.
Palo Cortado starts its life under flor like a Fino, then oxidises and takes on some of the richness of an Oloroso. The distillery received the first Royal Warrant, granted by King William IV in 1835.
The nose offers baking spices, vanilla, stone fruit and cocoa, lifted by citrus. The palate brings spiced biscuits, orange zest, peaches, plums and raisins, ending in bitter chocolate. The finish is long, with citrus, green olive, tobacco and spice.
