Iwai Tradition is a blended Japanese whisky from the Mars Shinshu distillery in Nagano, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It has no age statement.
The blend combines malt and grain whiskies, matured mainly in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. It is non-chill filtered and carries a very light peat influence.
The nose is clove spice and wildflower honey, with a faint earthy note, nougat and milk chocolate. On the palate it is smooth and malt-led, with caramel, toffee, honey and a little chocolate, plus some dried fruit from the sherry casks. The finish is long, with lingering toffee and a trace of warm spice.
