Sild Crannog is a limited-edition German single malt, distilled by Lantenhammer in Bavaria and bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It is chill-filtered and has added colour.
The maturation is unusual. Since 2021 the hand-selected 100-litre casks have rested on the cutter Gret Palucca, built in 1941, in the harbour at List on Sylt and on its outings, where waves, salty sea air and changing temperatures shape the whisky. Some of the barley is grown by Jan Petersen in Morsum, on the east of Sylt, and the whisky is brought to strength with water from the Sylt spring in Rantum.
Smoke, vanilla, malt, iodine, seaweed and white pepper show on the nose. Sea breeze and salt meet light malt and a bittersweet note on the palate. The long finish stays peaty and complex.
