Jöl en Reek is a single malt from SILD, bottled at 42% in a 70cl bottle and sold in a tube. It is distilled by Lantenhammer in Bavaria and then matured on the island of Sylt, in Tinnum, in former bourbon, sherry and rum casks. The barley comes from Morsum, the peat from the Braderuper Heide and the spring water from Sylt. The name means 'fire and smoke' in Sölring.
The nose shows strong peat smoke, caramel, roasted almonds and oak, with light iodine, seaweed and white pepper. On the palate, smoky sweetness and charred wood meet fine spice and salt. The long finish carries peat, pepper, nutmeg and heather.
