Contradiction is a blended straight bourbon from Smooth Ambler, a craft distillery in Maxwelton, West Virginia. It combines a wheated bourbon distilled on site with high rye straight bourbons from Tennessee and Indiana, giving a four grain mix of corn, rye, wheat and malted barley. The blend averages about nine years old and is matured in new charred American oak. It is bottled at 46% (92 proof), non-chill-filtered and with natural colour.
The nose is sweet peppery rye, dried cherries, toasted vanilla and cinnamon. The palate is full bodied, with black pepper, dried fruit, caramel and toasted marshmallow, and the finish is long and warming with charred oak, leather and baking spice.
