Old Scout American Whiskey from Smooth Ambler is a blend of two whiskeys distilled from classic bourbon mash bills, bottled at 49.5% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
One part is a 9+ year old bourbon with 36% rye, aged in new oak barrels. The other is 5+ years old, distilled from a Tennessee bourbon mash and matured in re-charred, rejuvenated bourbon casks. That way of ageing keeps the blend from being called bourbon. It is made in hand-selected batches, without chill filtration.
The nose is sweet, with baking spice, cake icing and toasted graham cracker. The palate brings toasted wood, creamy corn and a hint of mint.
