Stonewood Distillery – 2020 5 Year Old Drà Strong One (70cl, 49.3%)

Stonewood Drà Strong One is a five-year-old single malt from Erbendorf in northeastern Bavaria, distilled in 2020. It matured in new American white oak casks with a heavy toast and was bottled undiluted at a natural cask strength of 49.3%. Drà is the Upper Palatine word for three, and the name marks the third whisky in the Stonewood range. The strong toasting gives the malty, fruity character a roasted, woody frame. It is unpeated, contains no added colour and comes in a 70cl bottle. The nose offers ripe apricot, cinnamon and soft vanilla. The palate is creamy, with ripe pear sweetness and dark chocolate and roasted coffee. The finish is long and balanced.
