Smokey Monk is a German single malt from the Stonewood brand of the Schraml distillery in Erbendorf. It was distilled in 2022 from beechwood-smoked malt, so the smoke comes from the malt itself. It then matured for three years in heavily toasted American white oak and is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle, without colouring. It won a silver medal at the German Whisky Award 2025.
The nose is led by smoke, with roasted notes, smoked ham and savoury bacon. The palate is smoky with restrained malt sweetness and a mild, velvety creaminess. The finish is peppery and balanced, with ripe fig and melting caramel.
