Stork House Straight Rye is made by Spreewood Distillers in Schlepzig, in the Spreewald area of Brandenburg, Germany. The distillery was founded in 2016, and this is its flagship bottling, released under the Stork House label.
It is made from 100% German rye, both malted and unmalted, and aged for a minimum of three years in individually toasted first-fill American oak and German Napoleon oak. It is bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The notes describe a nose of rich chocolate, peppery oak, caramel, butterscotch, toffee and rye bread. The palate is smooth and full, with toffee, vanilla, dark chocolate and espresso and a distinct rye spice, leading to a long finish of dark chocolate and rye spice.
