Refill American hogshead
This is a 47 year old Strathmill from Speyside, distilled in 1974 and matured in a refill American hogshead. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it on 17 June 2021 at 41.5%, in a 70cl bottle. The cask gave 62 bottles, and the whisky is not chill-filtered and has no added colour. It belongs to The Dram Takers collection, whose design draws on the illustration style of the ninth-century Book of Kells. The nose opens with candied lemon and lime, then dried peach and apricot, with vanilla and barley sugar turning to leather and oak. The palate is sweet and creamy, with exotic fruit, pear, passion fruit, yuzu and black pepper. The finish is medium, with sweets, charred oak, bittersweet citrus, tobacco and almond.
