Suntory Hakushu 18 Year Old 100th Anniversary Edition (70cl)

This is an 18 year old peated Japanese single malt from Suntory's Hakushu distillery, in a 70cl bottle. It was created in honour of the Suntory Whisky centenary, using malts aged for at least 18 years in various casks. The blenders work with peat and soften the palate with mountain water filtered through ancient granite. The smoke is described as gentle rather than dominant. The colour is a luminous gold. The nose has sage, ripe green apple and ripe pineapple. The palate is smoky, with herbal, grapefruit and acacia honey notes. The finish is clean, with lingering smoke and fresh green citrus.
