Suntory Yamazaki Islay Peated Tsukuriwake 2024 (70cl)

This is a 2024 Japanese single malt from the Yamazaki distillery, in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to Suntory's Tsukuriwake series, which explores flavour variation arising from production choices. Here the focus is barley origin, with peated malt brought in from Islay, Scotland. The Islay peat gives a smoky character that the distillery's whiskies rarely show, and it is integrated rather than dominant. The nose offers creme brulee, candied orange peel, apricot and gentle peat smoke. On the palate are soft smoke, fresh ginger, citrus oils and creamy sweetness. The finish is rich and lingering, with sweet fruit, warming spice and smoky depth.
