Talisker 8 Year Old is a cask strength single malt bottled at 59.4% ABV. It is a limited batch in the style of the Talisker 10, released at eight years as a nod to earlier Talisker bottlings from the 1980s that carried the same age.
The whisky was aged in deep-charred, first-fill ex-bourbon American oak barrels.
The nose is black pepper, seaweed, salty sea spray and thin smoke. On the palate it is medium-bodied, sweet and bready at first, then peppery and maritime, with pepper jelly, barbecue char, hay and tobacco. The finish is long and dry, with pepper and salt and peat smoke in the background.
