This is the 2023 Talisker Special Release, part of Diageo's annual Special Releases and known as The Wild Explorador. It is a single malt in a 70cl bottle at 59.7% vol.
The whisky was first matured in first-fill casks, then finished in a combination of white, tawny and ruby port casks, three types of port cask in all.
The nose combines sea air, oyster shells and sea salt with peat smoke, dried fruit and pine. On the palate come dark berries, nutmeg and caramel with pepper, building to a creamy, fruity richness with salt and smoke. The finish is long, smoky and maritime, with cinnamon pastry and jam.
