Tamdhu Distinction III is a UK release from a Speyside distillery founded in 1897 beside the River Spey and revived in 2012 by Ian Macleod Distillers. Tamdhu matures only in sherry casks.
This bottling goes further, using American oak sherry casks throughout. The Quercus alba staves are air-dried in the Spanish sun, assembled and toasted by coopers, then seasoned with Oloroso sherry for six years before the casks travel to the distillery.
The nose is shortbread dipped in vanilla cream, oak, citrus and peppermint. The palate is soft, rich oak giving way to plums and chocolate limes, and the finish is sherried oak fading to dried cherries and honeycomb.
