This is a 48-year-old Speyside single malt from Tamnavulin, distilled in December 1970, four years after the distillery opened. It is the oldest whisky in the Tamnavulin collection, and fewer than 1,000 individually numbered bottles were filled. It is non-chill-filtered.
The spirit began in Bourbon barrels, then spent time in Apostoles Oloroso sherry butts that were themselves 30 years old, before a final finishing period in first-fill Bourbon barrels. The colour is golden copper.
The nose offers creamy caramel, juicy pear, walnut cake and nutty praline. On the palate come dark treacle, delicate frangipane, tropical coconut and ripe figs.
