This is a 10 year old Highland single malt from Teaninich, bottled by Claxton's in its Exploration Series. It was distilled on 6 July 2015 and matured in a single shaved, toasted and re-charred (STR) cask. It comes in a 70cl bottle at 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring.
The STR treatment brings more contact between wood and spirit, which the notes link to added depth and spice.
The nose offers vanilla, malt and light fruit with a restrained woody spice. The palate is soft and lightly sweet, with malty fruit, vanilla and spice. The finish is dry and spicy, with lingering oak, spices and malty sweetness.
