The Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from the distillery at Dufftown, bottled at 43% ABV. It spends 21 years in traditional oak whisky casks before a finish in port pipes, which are casks that have held port wine.
The colour is deep gold with amber hues. The nose is ripe and gentle, with honey, sultanas, raisins and white peach, plus subtle nuts and a touch of oak dryness.
On the palate it is soft and silky, with red fruit, cooked raspberry, honey and light spice, and a wine-like sweetness from the port. The finish is long and gentle, with nutty dryness, raisins, red berries and a trace of cocoa.
