This is a 15 year old blended whisky from Matthew Gloag & Son, released as The Famous Grouse Bill McLaren's Famous XV World Rugby Select. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is rich and welcoming, with sherry-style dried fruit such as figs, raisins and dried cherries, layered with caramel, vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon and toasted oak, and a faint hint of smoke or peat. The palate is medium to full, silky and velvety, with dark chocolate, toffee, nuts, clove, nutmeg and ginger. The finish is long and warm, leaving cocoa, toasted oak and a touch of dry leather.
