The First Millionaire is a four-year-old American barley whiskey from Calistoga Depot Distillery. It was aged in used French oak barrels that previously held Napa Valley wine.
The name refers to Sam Brannan, who in 1848 bought up the spades, shovels, picks and pans around the gold fields before announcing the discovery of gold on the American River. He resold the tools to prospective miners at steep markups and by 1850 had become the first millionaire in California.
