This is The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve, a Speyside single malt bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is deep gold in colour.
Part of the spirit is matured in French Limousin oak casks, the wood often used for Cognac. The maturation time in these casks is controlled so that the oak adds a pleasing spiciness without overpowering the whisky.
The nose is creamy, rich and buttery, with fudge, Madeira and apple crumble. On the palate there is fruit and nut, with winter spice such as cinnamon and cloves. The finish is long and lingering, with sweet almond, spice and a peppery note.
