The Singleton of Dufftown – 54 Year Old Paragon of Time No.2 (70cl, 41%)

This is a 54 year old single malt from The Singleton of Dufftown, released as Paragon of Time No.2 in a 70cl bottle at 41% ABV. It is the oldest whisky The Singleton has released. The whisky comes from a single oak butt that was filled by hand on 31 October 1966, and it has the Paragon of Time series' theme of very long maturation. The nose is mellow and dry, with a winey top note like vintage solera wine, hints of maraschino cherry and furniture wax, and a little mint toffee when water is added. On the palate it is delicate and spicy, with Christmas pudding and clove-studded oranges, followed by a long, warming, drying finish.
