Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye is a Kentucky straight rye from Buffalo Trace, part of its Antique Collection. This 2025 edition is six years and three months old and is bottled at a cask strength of 64.9% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The rye is named after the New Orleans bartender who first used rye whisky in the Sazerac cocktail. It is uncut and unfiltered, and has a solid amber colour with a thick film and notable legs when swirled.
The notes describe heavy baking spices, cinnamon and golden raisin on the nose, a surge of rye spice and peppery oak on the palate, and a finish of charred oak and vanilla custard with lingering heat.
