The Willett name has a long family tradition in distilling. John David Willett began distilling near Louisville, Kentucky, during Reconstruction, and his son A. Lambert Willett began construction of the Willett Distilling Company outside Bardstown in the spring of 1935. The company later became Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, whose owner, Even Kulsveen, is a Willett son-in-law.
