WillowBurn Ember Batch 003 (2022) (45.9%)

WillowBurn Ember Batch 003 is a German single malt without an age statement, made by the Buchholz family in the Südharz and bottled at 45.9% ABV. The mash is 60 per cent light, unsmoked malt and 40 per cent malt smoked over peat or wood. It matured entirely in European oak hogsheads that previously held sherry, port, Malaga, Amarone, claret, Moscatel and Marsala. It is neither coloured nor chill-filtered, and it won Category Winner at the World Whiskies Awards. The notes run to malt, chocolate with raisins, roasted almonds, toffee and fruitcake, with coffee and mandarin.
