Wolfburn – Small Batch Release No. 458 (70cl, 64%)

This is a single malt from Wolfburn, the distillery in Thurso, Caithness, bottled at natural cask strength of 64% without chill filtration. Only 5,100 bottles were filled, in 70cl. It is a marriage in equal parts of two spirits: 7-year-old whisky matured in first-fill Pedro Ximenez sherry butts, and lightly peated whisky matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. The nose brings treacle and coffee, then cherry and dried spice. On the palate come hazelnut, almonds and cloves, with soft peat smoke running through dark fruit from the sherry casks.
