Adelphi Caol Ila 11 Year Old 2014 – Cask 326026 (70cl, 57.2%)

This Caol Ila was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2026 by Adelphi at 57.2%, in a 70cl bottle. It is 11 years old and comes from cask 326026, a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead that gave 270 bottles. The first fill oloroso dresses the Islay peat in dark fruit and tawny port, over a backdrop of barbecue and wood fire. The bottler itself describes it as an unusual Caol Ila. The nose is smoky and fruity, with barbecued pork ribs, clove-studded ham, sauna, blackberry jam, redcurrants, burnt fern, maraschino syrup, trout pastrami and peat bog. The palate is smoky and deep, with green-wood campfire, tobacco, tawny port, blackcurrant, tarragon and cured meats. The finish is rich and complex.
