Akkeshi New Born Foundation 4 is the latest release in a series from Akkeshi Distillery, on the island of Hokkaido in the far north of Japan. Hokkaido is also where Masataka Taketsuru chose to build his first distillery.
It combines malt and grain whisky, and includes whisky made from Ryofu, a Hokkaido barley malt. The whisky has been matured in sherry butts.
Tasting notes describe oranges, salted caramel, subtle banana and a maple syrup sweetness, alongside dark chocolate, white pepper and gentle hints of raisin.
