Ardbeg Anthology is a 13-year-old Islay single malt, the first release in a new experimental series from the distillery, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It is a vatting of two parts: whisky matured for the full 13 years in French Sauternes casks, and whisky matured for the same time in American ex-bourbon casks. This makes it a hybrid maturation rather than a finish.
The nose is oily, with olive oil, briar wood, coriander, sage and smoked lemon peel. The palate is soft and oily, smoky and sweet, with oak moss, aniseed sweets and smoked apricots. The finish is long, sweet and smoky, with caraway, cardamom and a hint of coconut.
