Ardbog is the 2013 Ardbeg Day edition from the Islay distillery, bottled at 52.1% in a 70cl bottle. The name pays tribute to the island's peat bogs.
It grew out of years of cask experiments at Ardbeg. Ten-year-old whisky from traditional American ex-bourbon casks is married with whisky of the same age from ex-Manzanilla sherry casks, which contribute mostly salty notes and an impression of ancient peat bogs.
The nose is salty and nutty, with caramel, melted butter, leather, lavender and violets. Salted caramel, roasted almonds and raisins lead the palate, and the finish is mineral, with smoked fish and blood orange.
