Arrrrrrrdbeg is a Committee release from Ardbeg, bottled at 51.8% in a 70cl bottle. It is a farewell tribute to Mickey Heads, who managed the distillery for 13 years before handing over to Colin Gordon in October 2020. The label carries an illustration of him as a fearless captain, drawn by the Brazilian artist Butcher Billy.
It was matured solely in ex-rye whiskey casks, a first for the distillery.
The nose brings smoked banana, pears, rye bread, vanilla and sweet toffee, with lemon and lime sorbet when water is added. The palate is spicy and very fruity, with melon, kiwi and aniseed. The finish is long and maritime, with Brazil nuts and gentle smoke.
