Ardbeg Blasda is a lightly peated Islay single malt from the Ardbeg distillery, in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV. It was released as a limited, experimental edition in which the distillery's usual heavy peat was tamed to show a lighter side. The phenol level is 8ppm, and Blasda is Gaelic for sweet and delicious.
The nose is sweet and fresh, with roasted chestnuts, mint and vanilla. On the palate it is creamy, with marzipan, citrus and a fine thread of peat smoke. The finish is medium in length, with citrus and spice.
