Ardbeg Grooves is the 2018 Committee edition from Ardbeg, a single malt bottled at 51.6% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Former wine casks were charred heavily to cut deep grooves into the inside of the wood. It was bottled on 23 November 2017 and released as a special bottling for Ardbeg Day 2018.
The nose offers smoked cinnamon and paprika, old leather and saddle soap, with pine resin, tar and sea spray behind and a distant bonfire. The palate is salty at first, then moves to molasses syrup, vanilla popcorn and salted peaches with soot, followed by smoky barbecue, mustard, apples and smoked pears. The finish is long, spicy and sweet, with smoke, oak and paprika.
