Ardbeg Scorch is a heavily peated Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day on 5 June 2021, in a 70cl bottle at 51.7% ABV. It is a limited edition built around the idea of a dragon's breath.
The whisky was matured in extra heavily charred ex-bourbon casks, and it is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. Its colour is a pale gold.
The nose is sooty and smoky, with aniseed, patchouli, hardened steel and saddle soap, and a drop of water brings out sage, briar wood and pine. On the palate it is oily, with sweet smoke, charred oak, grilled notes, black liquorice and medicinal lozenges. The finish is long, with a light tarry echo.
