Second-fill Laphroaig barrel
An 11-year-old single cask Ardmore from the Highlands, released by Brave New Spirits in its WhiskyHeroes series as The Ardphroaig Mutant on Guard, exclusively for Germany. The whisky matured in a second-fill Laphroaig barrel, which yielded 242 bottles at 55.6%. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. The label is drawn in a comic style. Ardmore's peat smoke is drier and earthier than that of maritime peat, which lets the iodine and salt of this cask stand out beside the Highland character. The nose combines smoke, fresh lemon, damp moss and malt, with a trace of iodine, vanilla and caramel. On the palate, dry smoke and citrus meet soft malt sweetness, salted porridge and a little ash. The finish is long, dry and warming, with ash, fine pepper and a medicinal, smoky echo.
