A 28-year-old Ardmore from Decadent Drinks, distilled in 1997 and released as Chapter 1 of their series. It is bottled at 55.6% in a 70cl bottle, from 264 bottles.
This Ardmore dates from the distillery's direct-fired era. It spent 24 years in a refill hogshead, then a further four years in a second-fill sherry hogshead, which added depth and spice without making it a sherry-led whisky.
The nose is old-school Ardmore: dry peat smoke, cold fire pit and beeswax, with apricot and orange peel. The palate is oily and dense, with sweet malt, wax, roasted nuts and dry sherry. The finish is long and dry, with peat ash, walnuts and wax.
