This is a 15-year-old single malt from the Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran, released as an Arran Rare Batch and made with malted barley peated to 20ppm. It matured entirely in ex-Oloroso sherry butts from Jerez and was bottled at 54.4% in a worldwide run of 4,024 bottles.
It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. The sherry casks and peated malt give a sweet, spicy and distinctly smoky character.
The nose brings citrus, brown sugar, oak and dry bonfire smoke. The palate is soft and rich, led by oak with sweet citrus and a touch of spice. The finish is long and oaky, with early sweetness giving way to lingering dry smoke; a little water brings out red fruit.
