Ballantine's 21 Year Old is a blended Scotch whisky from the Dumbarton-based brand that began with George Ballantine, who opened a wines and spirits business in Glasgow in 1865. The brand later drew on the Glenburgie and Miltonduff distilleries, with a grain distillery built at Dumbarton.
The nose brings stone fruit, marmalade and liquorice, with aromatic spice and a whisper of wood smoke. On the palate honey comes through with apple, juicy orange, hedgerow fruits, macadamia and pecan, then dried fruits, with the wood smoke returning.
