This is a 14 year old Balmenach bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as a special release for the 2024 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. It was matured in refill and first-fill bourbon wood together with an American oak PX hogshead, and 881 bottles were produced at 49.8%.
The nose suggests steamed raisin pudding with a tawny port sauce, then gingerbread with vanilla frosting, tonka beans, cinnamon sticks and garibaldi biscuits. With a few drops of water, chocolate-coated dark red cherries, nougat ice cream and PX raisins come forward. On the palate there are freshly picked blueberries.
