This is an 18 year old Speyside single malt from Balvenie, in a 70cl bottle. Its final stage of maturation took place in Pedro Ximenez sherry butts, and it is the second sherry-finished expression in the Balvenie range of finishes.
The nose has almond butter, toasted orange peel, Jaffa biscuits, dried apricots, prunes, raisins and spicy wood, with the sherry finish described as subtle rather than intrusive. The palate opens creamy and slightly tingling, with tart orange marmalade, almonds, walnuts, cocoa, dark chocolate and nougat. The finish is medium in length and very spicy, ending on dry wood.
