This is a BenRiach from Speyside, bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 12.51. It comes from the 2009 vintage and matured for 11 years in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. It was bottled in 2021 at a cask strength of 58.4% ABV, and the cask gave 191 bottles.
The nose is led by citrus, apple and vanilla, with lemon zest, grapefruit pith and orange blossom. On the palate there is vanilla cream, lemon curd and apple compote, with oak spice, coconut and a touch of grapefruit bitterness. The finish is medium in length and gently drying, with vanilla, toasted oak and citrus peel.
