BenRiach – 22 Year Old Dark Rum Dunder Peated (46%)

This is a 22 year old peated Speyside single malt from BenRiach, matured first in American oak casks and then finished in dark Jamaican rum casks. Its name comes from dunder, the cane sugar residue left after rum distillation, often used as a yeast source in rum fermentation. The nose is floral with peat smoke, overlaid with cinnamon in spiced apple sauce and a little white pepper for gentle warmth. On the palate there are roasted apples and pears dusted with demerara sugar and lemon zest, with crisp barley sweetness and lingering wood smoke.
