Blair Athol – 14 Year Old 2008 SMWS Cask 68.111 'Sirtaki Time' (70cl, 59.4%)

This is a 14 year old Highland single malt from Blair Athol, distilled in 2008 and bottled for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 68.111, named Sirtaki Time. It comes in a 70cl bottle at 59.4% ABV, and 281 bottles were produced. The whisky spent its first 11 years in a bourbon hogshead before moving into a first fill Pedro Ximenez sherry barrique from a small, family-owned bodega in its ninth generation that works only with that grape. The tasting notes lean towards Greek and Mediterranean flavours. The nose brings Neapolitan wafer biscuits and saffron buns, while the palate offers whipped Greek-style yoghurt with crunchy honey fudge clusters.
