Boann Oloroso & PX Casks is a single pot still Irish whiskey from the Boann Distillery in Drogheda, in a 70cl bottle. The spirit is made from malted and unmalted barley, oats and rye.
It matures first in 250-litre American oak Oloroso hogsheads from Bodegas Garvey, then is finished in Pedro Ximénez butts of more than 500 litres from Málaga. Those butts spent over 60 years in a PX solera, and some are made of chestnut. Bottled at 47%, it is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The nose offers raisins and figs with molasses, sweet caramel and a touch of leather. Honey syrup and dark chocolate meet crisp bacon and cracked white pepper on the palate. The finish is long and rich, with lingering earthy caramel.
