Brora – 1978 40 Year Old 200th Anniversary 1819-2019 (70cl, 49.2%)

This is a 40 year old Highland single malt from Brora, a limited edition made in 2019 for the distillery's 200th anniversary. It was the first official distillery release from Brora since the 2017 Diageo Special Releases, and came ahead of a planned reopening that was delayed by covid and took place in 2021. It is bottled at 49.2% in a 70cl bottle. The whisky was drawn from 12 specially selected refill American hogsheads filled in 1978 and bottled in 2019, in an outturn of 1819 bottles. The nose is rich and smoky. The palate has dried fruits, figs and raisins, with peat smoke running through.
